Minneapolis-based writer Heather McElhatton is one step closer to having her first novel turned into a network-television series. NBC announced Friday that it's developing an hourlong drama based on McElhatton's "Pretty Little Mistakes," a book in which readers can determine the fate of a high-school senior. Jason Katims, an executive producer for "Friday Night Lights," is supervising the project.

"I'm thrilled to see my book turn into a television show," said McElhatton, who is also a writer and independent producer for Minnesota Public Radio. "Together the writing team will develop what we hope is a solid show for the NBC lineup."
