Greg Peyton of River Falls, Wis., writes:

“Hittin’ the Trail: Day Hiking the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway,” by Rob Bignell. More than just a trail guidebook, this book weaves in fascinating stories about what you’ll see on those walks: the history of the logging industry in Stillwater; how the ice age shaped the geology of Taylors Falls; fishing Lake St. Croix at Afton. You don’t have to hike the trails to learn a lot about our communities.
