Mary S. Hegge of St. Paul writes: On my nightstand are Cheri Register's "Packinghouse Daughter," Richard Dawkins' "The Greatest Show on Earth" and a dictionary. I have alternated reading the memoir with the Dawkins book. I heartily recommend both. Dawkins gives an exciting view of the wonder of our universe as it has evolved. How anyone can deny evolution after reading this is a mystery to me. Register recounts a history of the meatpacking industry and the union in her native Albert Lea along with her personal stories.
