Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company has three premieres among its four shows next season. "My Name is Asher Lev" opens the year on Oct. 16. Playwright Aaron Posner scripted the Chaim Potok novel, which follows a youngster from a Hasidic Jewish family whose love of visual art draws him to Christian ideology. The production runs to Nov. 7.

"Goats" is a work that Minneapolis playwright Alan Berks performed in the 2004 Fringe Festival. He's retooled it as a full-length work and MJTC will produce the premiere March 5-27, 2011. Berks' play is a coming-of-age story about a man who learns life lessons while working as a goatherd in the mountains of Israel.

The third premiere is "The Gospel According to Jerry," by Richard Krevolin and Irwin Kula. The title character is a divorced rabbi who leads an overeaters' anonymous group. A churchgoing African-American woman is the sole partcipant and the play explores relations among Jewish and black communities. The play runs April 16-May 8, 2011.

In addition to these shows, MJTC will bring back "Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins," the holiday show adapted by Shari Aronson from a book by Eric Kimmel. It runs Dec. 7-17.
