I'm done with the Fair this year, having done my part for Strib and country, but I can't let the last day go without posting some ephemera. Here's a picture of the Fair in its early days, when it was not so organized or permanent-looking as today:
I think those are big arc lamps, providing the Miracle of Illumination to the gentlefolk below. A close--up:
It looks like a painting, but it's a colorized photo. Note the attire: hats, coats, long dresses undoubtably covering corsets. Decry our sloppy dress today if you wish, but it's certainly comfortable; I wouldn't want to walk around on a 80 degree day with my guts cinched together.
