The first concert announced at the newly renovated Northrop Auditorium for fans of rock music from this century, Ray LaMontagne will make his debut at the U of M palace on June 28. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. for $39.50-$69.50 through Northrop's in-house sales. The opening acts will be Walkmen singer Hamilton Leithauser (who canceled his Fine Line show scheduled next week) as well as the Belle Brigade, a brother/sister band from California who will also serve as LaMontagne's backing band on the tour.

A longtime local favorite who headlined the Basilica Block Party in 2011, the sandy-voiced "Trouble" singer just released his fifth studio album, "Supernova," produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. LaMontagne joins a Northrop concert list that also thusfar includes the Moody Blues and Bob Weir & RatDog.

More concert news: The Pixies will return Oct. 11 to the city where they played their first-ever reunion show a decade ago. This time, they're booked at the State Theatre. Those tickets also go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $45-$59.50. This will be the Boston alt-rock heroes' first local gig without original bassist Kim Deal, who quit the band. Paz Lenchantin of A Perfect Circle is her new replacement and plays on some of the group's new album, "Indy Cindy."
