The Minnesota Zoo will honor its longtime concert promoter by dedicating the "Sue McLean Stage" at the Weesner Amphitheater on Wednesday night.

For nearly 20 years, McLean, the world's top independent female concert promoter, booked the concerts at the zoo. She was at nearly every show, attending to details backstage and schmoozing with performers, crew and fans. After promoting concerts in the Twin Cities for nearly four decades, she died in May of cancer at age 62.

"Sue McLean was known to say, 'live music is good for your soul,' and so it's fitting that wehonor her with this namesake," Zoo director/CEO Lee Ehmke said in a statement. Sue McLean & Associates continues to book concerts at the zoo and elsewhere, under the guidance of McLean's niece, Patricia McLean, who is now running SMA. She and other family members will be at the zoo Wednesday when the stage is dedicated before the concert by Lyle Lovett, whom McLean has presented in the Twin Cities since 1987.
