No, the Rolling Stones don't have a new album to promote.

So all the songs in Friday's United Center set in Chicago were from 1981 or earlier – except two new numbers heard on recent hits packages, "Doom and Gloom" and "One More Shot." They both sounded better live than on the radio or CD but they're hardly essential additions to the Stones canon.

At times on Friday, the Stones sounded less than crisp, like a band that doesn't rehearse much. "Tumbling Dice" was dicey sounding, and Darryl Jones' bass on "Miss You" was more jazzy than elastic and disco-y.

You can't always get what you want, but we got what we needed. Guests Sheryl Crow and Mick Taylor came to our emotional rescue, as detailed in my review.
