River Road Entertainment taps "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke to helm "The Age of Miracles"

Bill Pohlad’s production company River Road Entertainment has announced its 14th film. Catherine Hardwicke (director of “Twilight” and the Oscar-nominated “Thirteen”) is set to helm “The Age of Miracles.” It’s an adaptation of the speculative fiction bestseller by Karen Thompson Walker, lauded by Rolling Stone as “the next big female novelist.” The story concerns Julia, a bright, observant young woman from the California suburbs who is coming of age in the midst of a mysterious environmental crisis. Earth’s rotation is slowing, stretching out days and nights and subtly affecting gravity. Julia must navigate the meaning of life at a time when global emergency throws established relationships and values into question.
There is no information as of yet about casting, locations or scheduling. In all likelihood, River Road’s historical drama “Twelve Years A Slave,” currently in post-production, will reach theaters first. The film is based on the true story of man living in New York during the mid-1800s is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south. The stars include Chewitel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard and Quvenzhané Wallis.
