Lady A sounded like a Sunday-night band; here's Target Center set list

Lady Antebellum seemed like the ideal Sunday-night band Sunday at sold-out Target Center. No drinkin,’ partyin’ or hell-raisin’ songs for these mild-mannered middle-of-the-road popsters, as explained in my concert review. Leave that rowdy stuff to country’s Saturday-night acts.

Not one of the 13,500 fans -- mostly women and the men they dragged along -- complained. Here is what they heard from Lady A and its five-man band.

We Owned the Night/ Stars Tonight/ Our Kind of Love/ Dancin’ Away with My Heart/ Wanted You More/ PerfectDay/ Love I’ve Found You/ Love Don’t Live Here/ Hello World/ acoustic set: American Honey (with a 7-year old girl from crowd singing)/ Midnight Rider (Allman Brothers, sung by Thompson Square w Lady A on harmonies and instruments)/ Black Water (Doobie Brothers, sung by Darius Rucker w Lady A on harmonies and instruments)/ I Run To You/ Just a Kiss/ Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith)/ Lookin’ for a Good Time ENCORE Need You Now.

As for Darius Rucker's set, he leaned heavily on material from his two country albums, did bluegrass treatments of Hootie & the Blowfish faves Only Wanna Be with You and Hold My Hand and rocked out on covers of Hank Jr's rollicking Family Tradition and Prince's potent Purple Rain. Too bad Rucker didn't realize that Purple Rain was recorded live (for the movie) across the street, at First Avenue.
