Gearing up for another marathon of gigs at the South by Southwest Music Conference next week, Free Energy debuted the first single off their sophomore record today as a free download. Titled "Electric Fever" (and posted below), the new track is typical/lovable Free Energy, with a '70s glam-rock groove, ample cowbell, a rowdy "woah-ohh" hook and a cool mid-song tempo breakdown.

However, things have changed for the Philadelphia-based, Minnesota-bred rockers this time around. They recorded the album with producer John Agnello, who helmed two of the Hold Steady's best albums ("Boys and Girls in America" and "Stay Positive") and has also worked with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. It sounds like the quintet could also be working with a new record label. The announcement of their album makes no mention of a release date nor of DFA Records, the LCD Soundsystem-affiliated company behind their 2012 debut "Stuck on Nothing." Whenever and however it arrives, we're looking forward to hearing the rest.

The fellas' batch of SXSW gigs next week include the My Old Kentucky Blog and Consequence of Sound parties. No word of a gig back home anytime soon.
