Mike Pomeranz

Mike Pomeranz never made it very far as a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins system, but he's getting a second chance at his baseball dreams.

After six years as a KARE anchor, Pomeranz is leaving the station to be a TV broadcaster for the San Diego Padres. He'll be working with the legendary Dick Enberg and Tony Gwynn.

"KARE 11 has been great for my family and me these last six years," Pomeranz said in a story posted on the station's website. "It took the opportunity of a lifetime to pull me away."

Pomeranz followed in the footsteps of two highly popular male anchors: Paul Magers, who went to Los Angeles, and Frank Vascellaro, who jumped to WCCO.

"I've got nothing but good things to say about Mike," said KARE general manager John Remes. "The employees here just love him and the community has embraced him. These are going to be difficult shoes to fill."

Remes said he hasn't figured out who may replace Pomeranz, but said he's keeping an open mind and will look for candidates both inside and outside the office.

Pomeranz's last day at KARE is March 23. He has also been part of the Fox Sports North studio crew for the past year or so.

We've got a call into Mike and will you give you an update when we hear from him.
