Tune-Yards won best album/ Photo by Leslie Plesser

I would have put my money on "Bon Iver."

Given Bon Iver's consistent critical success and multiple Grammy nominations, I thought his self-titled recording would top the Village Voice's annual Pazz and Jop Poll of critics for album of the year.

But apparently not enough critics drink the Pitchfork kool-aid. Or maybe having 700 voters balances things out.

"Bon Iver" ranked ninth, with votes from only 90 critics. "Who Kill" by Tune-Yards (or tUnE-yArDs if you prefer one-woman, arty noise-pop band Merrill Garbus' preferred spelling) won with support from 135 voters and 1,645 points (critics were asked to divide 100 points among 10 albums, with no disc getting more than 30 or fewer than 5 points).

Rounding out the Top 10 were PJ Harvey's "Let England Shake" at No. 2 with 129 mentions and 1,480 points, Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" at 3, Wild Flag's self-titled CD at 4, Tom Waits' "Bad as Me" at 5, Adele's "21" at 6, Destroyer's "Kaputt" at 7, Drake's "Take Care" at 8 and Shabazz Palaces' "Black Up" at 10.

The highest rated album by a Minnesota artist was Low's "C'mon" at No. 72.

In the singles survey, Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" was the runaway winner with 116 mentions, followed by Beyonce's "Countdown" and Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass."
