Opening nights of a concert tour aren't always marked by glitches, kinks and too-little rehearsal. Sometimes the performers are fresh, eager and adrenalized.

That seemed to be the case with Marc Anthony Thursday at the State Fair. As my review pointed out, he's a magnetic performer with an elastic voice, loose limbs and electrifying charisma. Yes, he can be a little overly dramatic at times and bask too much in the applause. But he seemed as excited to be performing with his terrific, tight band (clearly well rehearsed) as the smallish crowd was excited to see this Puerto Rican cultural hero. It was a perfect performance for a hot and steamy night at the grandstand.

By the by, he never mentioned Jennifer Lopez, his soon-to-be ex, or his (taped) interview on ABC"s "Nightline," which aired shortly after the concert ended.

Here is Anthony's set list:

I Need to Know/ Y Hubo Alguien/ Volando Entre Tus Brazos/ Hasta Ayer/ Valio La Pena/ Y Como Es El/ Contra La Corriente/ You Sang to Me/ Nadie Como Ella/ Mi Gente/ Te Conozco Bien/ Tu Amor Me Hace Bien
