Tom Lindner, who was fired Wednesday from his longtime position as KARE's news director, may be appeased today by news that his station won seven regional Edward R. Murrow awards, including the most coveted one for overall excellence. That's just one less than the biggest winner: KUSA in Denver.

KARE was recognized for its web site, writing and pieces entitled "Jazz Man<" "Taking it to the Bank," "Summer Twisters" and "Silent Killer."

KSTP received two awards. In the radio category, local winners included KNOW-FM and 2 Below Zero.

The Star Tribune was recognized for overall excellence in online news.

Regional winners are now eligible for national Murrow awards, which will be judged in June.
