When Micheal Larsen -- better known to the listening public as rapid-fire, battle-rap-tested MC Eyedea -- died of an accidental overdose last October, the pain was felt not only in the Twin Cities hip-hop community that he helped build, but in the more intimate corners of jazz and spoken word as well.

Now fans can savor Mikey's adventurous streak via "Waste Age Teen Land," a 15-track album by his group Face Candy, featuring rapper Kristoff Kane, drummer JT Bates and bassist Casey O'Brien. It's being released May 25 on the Rhymesayers label, which is calling it the final album that Larsen completed before his death.

You can download the final track here -- a live cut. The album was recorded during two days at Winterland Studios by Brian Johnson (who worked with Eyedea & Abilities as well as Prince) and one night in front of an audience at St. Paul's Black Dog Cafe (engineered by No Bird Sing's Graham O'Brien).

Rhymesayers is justly giving the release some TLC, including a limited edition that includes a hand-numbered vinyl picture disc and DVD of bonus material.
