Los Angeles arts writers are basically mad as hell and aren't going to take it any more.

Last week writers and editors at ArtScene/ Visual Art Source  went on strike against Huffington Post which previously had been publishing their commentary for free. No more. The writers now want to be paid for their work. Huff Post publisher Arianna Huffington isn't interested. At a "Paid Content" conference in New York, sponsored by England's Guardian newspaper, she dismissed their claims with an attitutde that's been compared to Marie Antoinette's infamous "let them eat cake," remark.

Ouch. Even writers have to pay for their cake these days. Or at least pay for the flour and eggs to bake their own.

The writers have published an OpEd piece explaining their position in the Guardian. Read it here. For background on the fracas and what it might mean to the future of Huff Post and its recent merger with AOL, there's more than you'll ever need to know in Wired.
