What with the snow falling this afternoon and the fact that some of you would do anything this side of working for Haliburton to move to another city right now, I thought I'd share a reminder of something that makes living here great: Block parties. The first block party announcement of 2011 arrived over the weekend courtesy of Memory Lanes, which puts on a rowdy, all-ages, two-day bash in its parking lot over Memorial Day weekend. Mark Mallman, Pink Mink, the Goondas, E.L.nO., Seated Heat (a mash-up of Birthday Suits and Mute Era) and more will perform on Saturday, May 28, while the Sunday lineup includes butt-kicking, gas-tank-slapping Kansas punkabilly band Split Lip Rayfield, Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles, the 4onthefloor, Sex Rays and Al's Rockabilly Trio. And if all this isn't enough good news to warm you up, the party will also roll over into Monday this year with an extra-punky third-day lineup featuring the God Damn Doo Wop Band, F--- Knights, Useless Wooden Toys, In Defence and others.
