Opening Saturday: Anyone with an eye for photography knows that the Twin Cities has unusually successful professionals in the field. Recent work by 17 of them will be featured in "The Minnesota Eye," which ranges from traditional black-and-white "street shots" by Tom Arndt to Old Masterish color portraits of exotic flowers by Cy DeCosse, experimental patterns and designs by David Goldes, cool Antarctic icebergs by Stuart Klipper, and exercises in democracy documented by Paul Shambroom. John Marshall shot the moody portrait with a 1950s film-noir look shown here. Other participants are Beth Dow, Linda Gammell, Lynn Geesaman, Gary Hallman, Brian Lesteberg, Justin Newhall, Cory Prahl, Alec Soth, Carrie Thompson, Katherine Turczan and JoAnn Verburg. There will be talks and panel discussions at 6 p.m. Nov. 5, free, and 4 p.m. Nov. 8, $10, online registration required. (Opening reception 5-8 p.m. Sat., free. College of Visual Arts Gallery, 173 Western Av., St. Paul. 651-497-4080 or www.cva.edu/gallery/gallery.htm)
