MIAMI - The director of the Miami Art Museum has resigned, effective immediately.
Aaron Podhurst, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, announced in an e-mail Monday that Terence Riley had stepped down.
Riley will be resuming his role as partner at Keenen/Riley Architects. Riley, appointed in 2006, will serve as a consultant at the museum until June 30. A new museum building is to break ground in the spring and open in 2013.
The museum will form a search committee for a new director.
Riley said that since the museum was ready to break ground on the new project, it was the right moment for him to pursue other interests and for the museum to transition to a new leader who will see the project through.
