A FEW OF VISO'S FAVORITE THINGS

David Hammons: A 1978 mobile made from shards of phonograph records, hair, feathers, bamboo and other fragments. "I think it's an amazing piece by an important African-American artist; a glorious sense of balance with very abject materials," Viso said.

Robert Irwin (American): An ethereal white canvas spotted with delicate pastel dots that suggest an aurora of pink light.

Yves Klein (French): A 1961 "tapestry" in which nude models covered in ultramarine blue paint pressed impressions of their bodies into gauzy fabric.

Nelson Leirner (Brazilian): A 1967 "zipper painting" that can be reconfigured by zipping and unzipping panels to reveal other colors and minimalist shapes. "This disrupts your understanding of minimalism as being solely American or European, and it's a painting that's performative."

Michelangelo Pistoletto (Italian): Mirror paintings from the early 1960s in which reflections of viewers mingle with images painted by the artist.

Charles Ray (American): A full-scale, gray-painted fiberglass cast of a wrecked 1991 Pontiac Grand Am.
