JAMES DAYTON

Born: 1965, in Minneapolis.

Education: Bachelor's degree in architecture, Yale University, 1987; master's in architecture, University of Virginia, 1991.

Career: Frank Gehry and Associates, Santa Monica, Calif., 1991-96; Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Minneapolis, 1996-97. Opened James Dayton Design in 1997.

Honors: Minnesota Young Architect Award in 2005; American Institute of Architects Young Architect Award in 2006.

Notable projects: Minne-tonka Center for the Arts, 2002; Bookmen Lofts and Bookmen Stacks, 2004; Blake School expansion and renovation, 2006.

On the boards: A contemporary house in Vail, Colo.; a minimalist house in Wisconsin, and renovation of retail space for a new home for Highpoint Center for Printmaking in south Minneapolis. (For more on Highpoint, turn to F5).
