Spotlight: American Pottery Festival

Last update: September 6, 2007 - 6:26 PM

Opens today: As some wag once said, "You can never be too rich, or too thin. Or have too many pots." That last bit pretty much sums up the thinking at the Northern Clay Center where the annual American Pottery Festival begins its three-day sale today. Twenty-four of the country's more innovative ceramicists have sent jazzy covered jars, svelte porcelain cups and bowls, Oriental-flavored teapots, baroque casseroles, and tableware decorated with sweet flowers, leaves and chicks. The pretty pitcher shown here is by Julia Galloway. There's a benefit party and sale tonight and a full slate of demonstrations, workshops and slide talks tomorrow and Sunday. (Party today, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., $20. Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., $5. Sun. 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., $5. Northern Clay Center, 2400 Franklin Av. E., Mpls. 612-339-8007 or www.northern claycenter.org)
