'Tony and Tina' now in St. Paul

Last update: November 12, 2008 - 8:02 PM

Tony and Tina are getting hitched, this time in St. Paul.

"Tony n' Tina's Wedding," the interactive play about a mock-traditional Italian wedding that ran for more than five years at the Hey City Theater in Minneapolis, is coming to the downtown Lowry Theater this winter.

The show, directed by Ross Young, opens Jan. 15 and will run Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets went on sale Wednesday.

"'Tony n' Tina's Wedding' is credited with transforming Hennepin Avenue into the theater district it is today," said Bill Collins, managing director of the Actors Theater of Minnesota. It's the resident company of the Lowry Theater, 16 W. 5th St.

Audience members forked out a total of $16.9 million for 410,518 seats to witness the nuptial nuttiness and to eat more than 50,000 pounds of pasta during its run on Hennepin Avenue.

Collins is hoping for the same success on the east side of the river.

The cast will be new, and the music and clothing styles will be updated, he said. "It will have a little more of a St. Paul spin to it."
