Celine Dion postpones Target Center concert

Martial Trezzini, Associated Press

Canadian singer Celine Dion performs during her "Taking Chances World Tour" at the Stade de Geneve stadium, in Geneva, Switzerland, late Wednesday, July 9, 2008.

Thursday's show has been rescheduled for Feb. 5 due to respiratory illness.

Last update: October 29, 2008 - 12:04 PM

Celine Dion fans who waited a decade to see her back in the Twin Cities will have to wait a little longer.

A respiratory illness has caused the Canadian superstar to postpone Thursday's concert at Target Center. A makeup date has already been set for Feb. 5. Tickets to Thursday's show ($49.50-$187) will be honored then, but refunds will also be granted to anyone who cannot make the new date.

According to a press release sent out by Target Center staff and Dion's publicists, the singer has been battling a virus for about a week. She performed her second of two shows Tuesday night in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but "left the stage weak and breathless," the release stated.

"Her doctor stated that despite antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, bronchodilators and mucolytic agents prescribed for her condition, she has continued to worsen and he insists that she refrain from singing for the next five days, in order for her to recover completely."

Dion's next concert is not until Nov. 4 in Chicago, so Minneapolis likely will be the only postponed date. She is performing in 100 cities on her Taking Chances World Tour, which follows her wildly successful four-year run at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
