Tableau Vivant

This weekend: Shapiro and Smith is putting together a female supergroup of company members and esteemed guest artists — including Susanne Costello, Judith Howard, Mary Moore Easter, Zoe Sealy and Erin Thompson for this performance. Named after the popular fin de siècle practice of creating poses, or "living pictures" based on historical figures, literary scenes or classical pieces of art, the theatrical form is often associated with women's suffrage movements. Choreographer Joanie Smith takes the concept of the tableau vivant and uses it to explore iconic female relationships, with the help of Scott Killian's original score and Brian Sostek's text. The company will also premiere "Ravel X 3," based on the works of Maurice Ravel. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat.; Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls; $30, 612-206-3600, http://thecowlescenter.org.)
