Broadway vets cast in Coens' 'Serious Man'

The stars of the Coen brothers' "A Serious Man" will be theater men. The entertainment tabloid Variety reports that Broadway veterans Richard Kind, right, and Michael Stuhlbarg have been cast as leads in the filmmakers' upcoming feature. Stuhlbarg, a Tony nominee in "The Pillowman," stars as Larry Gopnick, a St. Louis Park college professor whose personal life collapses when his wife moves out in the summer of 1967. Kind -- who was also a regular on TV's "Mad About You" and "Spin City" -- plays Larry's socially inept brother who moves into the house and won't leave. The film, described as "a dark comedy in the vein of 'Fargo,'" begins shooting in and around Minneapolis next month. COLIN COVERT
