Continued: Partying like it's 1985

Do not adjust your newspaper. While it may look like we're reprinting photos from the 1980s, this party happened in '08 -- and it was truly worth break dancing about. At Macy's Glamorama Friday night, Cyndi Lauper and MC Hammer headlined a night of fashion and music to benefit the Children's Cancer Research Fund. The post-party on the 8th floor and parking-lot roof of Macy's included Rubik's Cubes, Donkey Kong and ring pops. It was the perfect way to honor the "Me" decade for all of its cultural contributions -- minus the shoulder pads.

SARA GLASSMAN

JULIET NELSON

15, high school student, from Wayzata

Wearing: Betsey Johnson dress that she bought in New York.

Most influential '80s icon: Madonna

Would you have liked the '80s? "Yes --if it was as fun as this party."

Best part of the show: " 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' and the underwear models were pretty."

MARISA MONTELIBANO and Jordan Anderson

Soon-to-be college freshmen, from Eagan

Both are wearing: Vintage prom dresses from Everyday People and hair by "Do Hair" in Uptown. "We were in a vintage shop. These are the worst dresses we've seen so they're probably '80s," Anderson said.

Relationship: Neighbors for seven years.

What they did to prepare: Listen to MC Hammer.

Anderson's most influential 1980s icon: "Michael Jackson and Prince. I listen to 'Purple Rain' during yoga."

Montelibano's most influential 1980s icon: "I was born in the '90s. Sorry!"

PATRIC RICHARDSON AND MARY RILEY

From St. Paul

Richardson is wearing: Burberry polos and Baker shoes from Nordstrom and tennis racket from Play It Again Sports. Everything else is by Ralph Lauren.

Riley is wearing: Burberry polo and knee socks from Nordstrom, Ralph Lauren sweater, Black Stewart kilt (family vintage), and Bass penny loafers.

Relationship: Friends and coworkers at Nordstrom.

Most influential '80s icon: " 'The Preppy Handbook.' Even after I got detention for a week after refusing to read anything else in fourth grade. Well, Mr. Metcalf--look at me now," said Riley.

Favorite candy: "Starlite Mints. My mom wouldn't buy me Pop Rocks. She heard they would make your fillings come out," Richardson said.

Richardson's favorite '80s movie: " 'St. Elmo's Fire.' I loved Andrew McCarthy's hair and that great Billy Idol painting in Demi Moore's apartment."

Riley's favorite '80s movie character: Jack Ryan from "Sixteen Candles."

Riley's favorite Glamorama moment: "Ports 1961. Stunning accessories -- oh, the wood-handled handbag."

Richardson's favorite Glamorama moment: "No question: Cyndi Lauper!"

LAURA SCHARA

Trend expert for Macy's

Wearing: Run DMC T-shirt, Kova & T leggings and Dior shoes. "Carrie wore the shoes when she got married in the 'Sex and the City.' When I saw them in a store, I almost tripped over someone to get them."

Most memorable '80s fashions: The rolling of the jeans, Madonna's black lace, rubber bracelets and zippers on jeans. "They were so tight you couldn't get into them without the zippers. I would have my mom taper mine even more."

'80s trends that are back: "Members Only jackets, a lot of colors from pastels to bold neon, full skirts and fuller shoulders."

Favorite designer from Glamorama: Celine.

Most influential '80s icons: Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Favorite '80s movie: "Top Gun."

CYNDI LAUPER

Wearing: Jacket by Ann Leman and Marc Jacobs shoes from Macy's.

About jumping from the stage in those platforms: "It was tough. I kept them on, I never keep them on.... My feet are killing me."

Favorite designers: "Marc Jacobs for shoes and bag. Nicole Miller, she's a friend of mine and I wear her stuff. She did a lot for my tour. I love Gaultier. I love Galliano--I think he's out of his mind. Some things by Chanel. Yves Saint Laurent had an interesting spring collection. Those would make good costumes if I can adjust this and that. Where am I going to go in a gown like that? Shopping? My son always says, you should put makeup on and dress up like Cyndi Lauper."

Fashion right now: "I was into this to this mannish French woman in a suit thing from the '30s. I haven't really had that come to fruition yet. It's in my head."

MC HAMMER

Wearing: All vintage/custom. "These are a 2010 pair of jeans. I'm always looking very fashion forward."

On the resurgence of "Hammer pants" in current fashion: "I'm excited that 20 years removed, that my fashion sense is still relevant. There are five or six top designers doing Hammer pants now. In the new commercial I did for Monday Night Football [on ESPN], I wore Dior Homme Hammer pants."

Who will headline Glamorama celebrating the '00s: "Neo, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Cierra. They're cutting edge performance artists."

JULIA COBBS AND LORI BARGHINI

Cobbs is wearing: A dress by Susanna Monaco from Barghini's closet and Casato jewelry from JB Hudson.

Barghini is wearing: A Cache top from 15 years ago, zipper skirt from Heartbreaker circa 1991, bondage shoes from 1988 and leggings from Nordstrom.

Best part of the show: "MC Ham...No. Actually I just met Cyndi Lauper. We bonded because I have two boys and she has one. I think we're best friends now. We're going to share everything in our closets," said Cobbs.

SHANNON MURPHY

From Rogers, a makeup artist for Lancome. She did makeup for all of the male models in the show.

Most influential '80s icon: "Madonna--style, power and soul."

Favorite '80s movie: "Breakfast Club"

KRIS HUSON

Marketing for Children's Cancer Research Fund, from St. Paul

Wearing: Vintage dress from Up Six and handbag with Boy George on it.

1980s trend she regrets: Stirrups and baggy jeans.

Best part of the show: "The music. Seriously! '80s rotation is still heavy in my iPod."

LILI JACKSON

Furniture maker, from Minneapolis/Los Angeles

Wearing: American Apparel miniskirt and stirrup tights and her mom's vintage '80s T-shirt dress.

Most influential '80s icon: "Kim Gordon at the end of the '80s and Madonna, of course."

1980s trend she regrets: Perms.

MARY PAT PETERSON

Retired special ed teacher from Wayzata

Wearing: Cache dress, Moda shoes from DSW and accessories from Claire's.

Most influential '80s icon: "Pat Benetar--she really brought women to the forefront in heavy metal/rock 'n' roll."

1980s trend she regrets: Shoulder pads.

Overrated/underrated - Sorry to kick a guy when he's down -- as in: ratings so abysmal that ABC won't bother showing the final five episodes of his new sitcom, "Hank" -- but Kelsey Grammer's windbag act only works when it's balanced by a strong ensemble, as it was in "Cheers" and "Frasier." More
