It seems that downtown Minneapolis’ meat cathedral Butcher & the Boar always has an event up its sleeve. Sunday marks the third annual Boarfest — a daylong party revolving around beer, bourbon, music and sausages (so pretty much everything that matters).
There will be plenty of Knob Creek, suds by Fulton, B&B eats and two stages of music headlined by local electro-rockers Solid Gold. Other acts include Davina & the Vagabonds, Jack Brass Band, Luke Warm & the Cool Hands, Drew Peterson & the Dead Pigeons and City on the Make.
Noon-10 p.m., Sun., free, all ages, Butcher & the Boar, 1121 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., 612-238-8888, www.butcherandtheboar.com
Wild beer hunt
India Pale Ales are so 2006 (or 1996, depending on where you’re from). OK, hop-heavy beers are still huge, but these days, at least among serious beer nerds, sours are all the rage. The sixth annual Where the Wild Beers Are is a potluck-style celebration of these sour or wild ales — a type of beer that dates back centuries, but has seen a resurgence in popularity the past few years.
The tart treats are brewed with a wild yeast strain, which creates an aroma often described as a barnyard funk. Sounds delicious, right? Some say it’s an acquired taste, but pre-registered beer fans with an affinity for wild and farmhouse ales will flock to Republic Seven Corners on Saturday, bearing a bottle or more to share.
Sadly, it’s sold out. But if you haven’t done so already, test your taste buds the next time you see one of these wild ones on tap.
11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sat., 21-plus, sold out, Republic Seven Corners, 221 Cedar Av. S., Mpls., 612-338-6146, www.wherethewildbeersare.com.
St. Paul gets new supper club
The Highland neighborhood got a new hangout this week as Seventh Street Social opened its doors. Don’t let the name fool you — there’s no relationship with Minneapolis’ Eat Street and Northeast Socials. But the contemporary supper club and bar is plugging a hole in the former Casa Vieja spot with 16 local-leaning taps, griddle burgers and hearty American dishes.
