Continued: State of Hockey state champion Anthony Walsh is all smiles

A One time at a tournament some kid called me “blackie.” [Bemused smile.] I don’t know; if you’re going to insult me, have something better than that. This year, two times, I got, “Oh, the basketball court’s over there,” or “Why aren’t you playing basketball?”

 

Q Which black NHLers inspire you?

A P.K. Subban, Wayne Simmonds. Those are [two] right there. Very good, high-profile players who I look up to.

 

Q Who is your favorite NHLer?

A He’s not my style of player, but my favorite hockey player is probably Patrick Kane. He’s just a talent, unreal with the puck. Really good. Evgeni Malkin is also a favorite.

 

Q How have people in Edina treated you?

A Nothing shy of excellent. Perfectly. They treat me like a regular person, like anybody else.

 

Q What’s more fun than playing hockey?

A Nothing.

 

Q Are you a big-meal guy or a little-bit-and-often eater?

A I just eat constantly.
