Two woolly bearded favorites from 89.3 the Current’s playlist, Father John Misty and My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, each announced spring dates at First Avenue this morning.

Mr. Misty (aka Fleet Foxes alum Joshua Tillman) will return to town May 21 for his first First Ave headlining show, following sold-out gigs last year at the Entry, Varsity Theater and Fine Line. The Current has been playing the bejeezus out of his Jesus-namedropping single “Hollywood Forever Cemetery” and other tracks from his breakthrough album, “Fear Fun,” which ranked No. 9 on the station’s Top 89 of 2012 poll. There’s a presale link on the Current’s website for tickets beginning Thursday at 10 a.m.

James will play First Ave on April 21 in support of his first true solo album, the loftily titled “Regions of Light and Sound of God,” which is now streaming at NPR’s music site ahead of its release next week on ATO Records. Minneapolis is only the fourth stop on his tour, not counting three East Coast test dates he’s playing next month. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon for $26 via First Ave outlets, and there are pre-sale offers via James’ site.

The Kentucky rocker said in a press release, “I have put together a special band of some of my oldest pals to help bring this album to life on the road!” No word yet on who those pals are. James’ only other local performances without My Morning Jacket were with his Monsters of Folk pals Conor Oberst and M. Ward in 2004 and 2009.
