"Today Show" host Savannah Guthrie didn't look much like a legal eagle Tuesday when she interviewed Kim Kardashian.

The "American journalist and attorney working for NBC News," as Wikipedia describes Guthrie, was interviewing Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, who are promoting the return of their E!TV reality show.

Based on the clip of the show aired during the Guthrie interview, the trashing of Kris Humphries will continue, with Khloe Kardashian remarking: "The dumbest part is that he won't, like, sign the divorce papers."

Guthrie aided and abetted Kim, whose marriage dissolution from Humphries is not going according to the plans of 2011's 72-Day Wife, now pregnant with rapper Kanye West's baby.

"In fact, you are still married to Kris Humphries," Guthrie noted before asking: "What is going on with that, and what do you think his motivations are for not signing your divorce papers?"

The better question (which we might have expected a practicing attorney to ask, if not a "chief legal correspondent" journalist) is why won't Kim give Kris the annulment he requested?

A 72-day marriage practically screams how little the union meant to Kardashian (de$pite her wi$h to retain the ring that, my sources insist, Humphries bought). Humphries claims the marriage was a fraud, and everything Kardashian does would appear to endorse that position.

"I can't really speak for anyone else. It's a process," Kardashian told Guthrie.

In the reality-show clip, Kardashian said, "It's something that should be over and done with. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. I'm annoyed about it, but I've taken it to a level, like, to where I just can't stress about this. The judge said we will be divorced in 2013." Kim said she and Kanye have discussed marriage, although the twice-married Kardashian is in no hurry.

Guthrie showed she hadn't left all her legal gray matter in Beverly Hills (during her not-so-entertaining turn as "Pretty Woman") when she piped up: "I hear you saying that maybe the baby was a surprise?"

Kardashian answered by not completing her next two sentences: "It was, you know, just a happy ... I think you'll see in the show ... Um, you know, I know Khloe has been very open about her fertility issues, and I think I was always kind of quiet about mine. And I have, you know, similar issues. And so it was a pleasant surprise when so many doctors were telling me one thing and then the opposite happened. That's just, like, an exciting moment."

I, like, almost couldn't take much more, especially, like, when Guthrie didn't ask WHY WERE YOU TRYING TO GET PREGNANT? YOU'RE MARRIED!

The interview was a prime example of the mediaocrity so prevalent on the airwaves today.

Guthrie also didn't pounce on Kim's alleged fertility issues. Don't couples normally decide they have fertility issues after trying for a year? How long have they been trying since, according to HuffingtonPost.com, Kimye have only been dating since April?

One more thing: Kardashian claims the baby is due in July. I suspect because that's when the Duchess of Cambridge's baby with Prince William is expected.

But my janetcharltonshollywood.com pal says, "We're betting Kim has her baby in June, not July. Kim admitted that Kanye blurted out the happy news in December, when they 'were safely past the three-month mark.'"

Kim Kardashian is apparently "really bad at math," and "Savannah never flinched," Charlton said of the Guthrie interview.

It's true ...

The rumors about entertainment reporter Melinda Jacobs' and businessman Howard Grodnick's 23-year marriage being on the rocks sadly have turned out to be true.

They are on very good terms with each other, however.

"We have two beautiful kids," Jacobs told me on Wednesday. "It's a new journey. My friend and business manager, Kathy Jalivay [of Aim Clear], said Melly, it's time for you to get your groove back!"

Messin' with Melo

Kevin Garnett's ability to make Carmelo Anthony lose his Melo prompted KFAN's Dan Barreiro to ask KG's former T'Wolves coach Flip Saunders a question:

Why won't Kevin leave Carmelo alone?

I followed up in a phone call to Saunders.

"Kevin has an unbelievable amount of intensity when he steps on the court, no matter who it is," Saunders told me. "It's not Carmelo. It's almost like [KG] turns into a zone. You've seen Kevin off the court, gentle, nice, deals great with kids. But he gets on the court and his whole persona changes."

Carmelo's the best player for the Knicks, said Saunders, so if Garnett can influence Melo's play, that's what KG does.

And Saunders said he's inclined to believe Celtics coach Doc Rivers, who has denied what TMZ reported were KG's crude fighting words about Melo's wife that landed Anthony a one-game suspension.
