Pack a picnic basket and bring dancing shoes to Como Zoo every Wednesday from Aug. 1 through Sept. 5 for a concert series called "Groovin' in the Garden."

The free shows run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The zoo provides lawn games, but spectators are welcome to bring their own. The zoo will sell food, beer, wine and cocktails. A climbing wall will be available at four of the shows as well.

In order of the schedule, the concerts are: the Tim Malloys, the Detroit Don King Blues Band, the Auctioneers, Crankshaft and the Gear Grinders, the 617 Band and the Rockin' Pinecones.

The styles range from industrial-strength blues to Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson-influenced country and dance-hall boogie. To see the schedule and read about the bands, go to www.startribune.com/a1533.

The concerts will occur in front of the zoo's visitor center. The shows are funded by money from the state Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment.
