FRIDAY

The Twin Cities 7 with Charmin Michelle: Veteran local vocalist teams up with a Count Basie-inspired septet. (4 p.m.)

Francisco Mela & Cuban Safari: A superb Cuban-born drummer and member of Joe Lovano's Us 5 brings the quintet responsible for last year's superb Cuban-jazz fusion album "Tree of Life." (6 p.m.)

Delfeayo Marsalis: The most underrated of the Marsalis clan, trombonist/arranger Delfeayo brings an octet with saxophonist Mark Gross and drummer Winard Harper for an ambitious program from the disc "Sweet Thunder," which expands upon Duke Ellington's musical portraits of characters from the works of William Shakespeare. (8:30 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Araya Orta Latin Jazz Quartet: Two pairs of brothers, the Arayas and the Ortas, play a rich Latin-jazz mix from Miami by way of Costa Rica. (4 p.m.)

Luca Ciarla: This Italian violinist, arriving with a bassist and accordionist, should set an intriguing, intrepid mood in advance of the Bad Plus. (6 p.m.)

The Bad Plus with Joshua Redman: Two high-profile jazz acts in collaboration. Redman is a rollicking tenor most recently in James Farm and the SFJazz Collective. (8:30 p.m.)
