Today's Weather Question

On extremely cold winter days the water in a vehicles exhaust can freeze on the roadway, making a thin sheet of ice known as ‘black ice’. Black ice is often found in areas where cars and trucks idle, like at intersections and ramp meters and is the cause of numerous accidents each year.

Today's NowCast

Where's the snow? It is still technically fall but winter’s chill seems like it has been with us for quite a while now. Sure earlier this month we did have a couple of days with highs in the seventies, but that seem like forever ago after dealing with this recent cold snap. Temperatures for the last week have been at or below average. Luckily the wind has shifted southerly and warmer weather in on its way. Today is the average date for the first inch of snow cover here in the Twin Cities. It has definitely been cold enough for it to snow but all of the clippers that have been making their way through the state have not had much moisture to work with. We do have a little over two inches for the month so far here in the Twin Cities, but it has long since melted away. I would be nice to get a fresh coating of white for the horizon but snow lovers are going to have to wait. The weather pattern just isn’t ripe for any major snow storms through at least Thanksgiving. A couple of weak disturbances could bring a few snowflakes to the state the next couple of days but no significant accumulation is anticipated. As it looks right now Thanksgiving is going to be a wonderful day; bright sunshine with slightly warmer than normal temperatures. Perfect weather for deep frying your turkey outside!
