While many may have enjoyed the warmer temperatures this month, not everyone is happy with the weather, and I'm not just talking about Frosty.

Warm temperatures have made it harder for Minneapolis parks staff to ready ice rinks. None of the 47 outdoor ice rinks at 22 parks citywide are officially open. They usually open this month as soon as ice conditions allow.

Besides general skating, many parks offer rinks for hockey, broomball and pond hockey as well.

Despite the hurdle, there looks like there could be an end in sight. On Friday, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board announced it would open rinks for general skating on Monday (Dec. 26) at Logan, Van Cleve, Bohanon, Windom, Sibley, Lake Hiawatha and Matthews parks, and a broomball rink at McRae. On Tuesday, broomball rinks will open at Logan, Van Cleve and Windom, as well as general skating at Lake of the Isles. The hockey rink at Lake of the Isles is scheduled to open Wednesday.

Park Board crews are optimistic that rinks will be ready for broomball and hockey leagues that start in January.

Most rinks usually remain open through Feb 20.
