Thursday-Saturday: Artistic partner Christian Zacharias leads the orchestra in two 20th-century masterpieces: Stravinsky’s neoclassical “Dumbarton Oaks” Concerto, inspired by Bach’s “Brandenburg” Concertos, and “Three Places in New England,” in which Charles Ives musically evokes actual locations, including a statue honoring the first black regiment in the Union Army. Zacharias solos and conducts Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23. The concert concludes with Schubert’s 5th Symphony, one of the final statements of Classicism on the cusp of Romanticism.
