Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin did not practice for the second day in a row because of an ankle injury Thursday and coach Brad Childress acknowledged that Harvin has not made much progress in his rehab.

"Not much progress," Childress said. "He was out today and we'll see if he can do anything [Friday]."

Harvin was limping noticeably as he walked off the field following the morning walkthrough.

"At this point he's trying to work through it," offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. "He's pushing hard and he's a tough guy. You've seen what he's been able to do and how he plays the game. He plays it one way. He's pushing to get back. I always expect the guys to come back, but sometimes they're not able to."

The Vikings are getting pretty thin at wide receiver. Randy Moss is gone, Harvin is hurt, and Sidney Rice is not expected to play Sunday after returning to practice this week.

"He was sore today coming back, which you would anticipate," Childress said of Rice. "Think about a first day of training camp. But all of his recall ... his hands haven't been hurt by his hip surgery or anything like that. He's jumping in where he can. Don't really have a timetable yet. Can't make it this week most probably. But he's coming, he's working at it."

Childress said Rice's hip is healed and he's "cleared completely" for practice as far as doing everything. He just needs to improve his conditioning and get past the soreness.

Childress was asked if there is a temptation to play Rice in an extremely limited role.

"My offensive coordinator is tempted to want to do that," he said. "But we're erring on the side of caution here. At least for this week."

Wilf in town

Owner Zygi Wilf watched practice and spent a few minutes talking to Childress during the individual portion. Childress confirmed a Foxsports.com report that Wilf met with some players to discuss the week's events. "He's spoken to some individuals here," Childress said. Childress was asked if his relationship with Wilf has changed with the events of this week. "Not as far as I've seen," Childress said. "But you could ask him. It takes two to tango you know." Injury report The only change to the Vikings injury report is Brett Favre (foot/ankle/chin) did some limited work after sitting out Wednesday. The other players who were limited Thursday were cornerback Chris Cook (quadricep), offensive guard Chris DeGeare (ankle), linebacker Ben Leber (knee), cornerback Lito Sheppard (hand), cornerback Frank Walker (hamstring) and defensive tackle Pat Williams (elbow).
