Sporty & Functional: 2008 Saab 9-7X

Saab offers drivers automatic all-wheel drive, sophisticated exterior and interior styling, premium design features and sporty performance with the 9-7X.

Last update: August 15, 2007 - 12:33 PM

Available in 4.2i and 5.3i models, upscale appointments meet body-on-frame toughness and versatility. The base engine for the Saab SUV is a Vortec 4200 inline six-cylinder; a 5.3L V-8 is an available option.

Both engines are joined to a smooth-shifting Hydra- Matic electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. For 2007, the 9-7X gains a tire pressure monitoring system as standard equipment.

The 9-7X reflects Saab's sporty and functional brand character in its exterior design, featuring the Saab trademark three-port grille, wraparound rear quarter windows and brand-distinctive wheels. Saab's SUV presents a smooth, aerodynamic appearance, with its low stance and standard 18-inch wheels.

At speed, the 9-7X, equipped with the optional V-8 engine, is smooth, sure and comfortable. The all-wheel drive system operates seamlessly — its proof of operation being continuous traction in almost every road and weather condition.

Standard body-on-frame construction is reinforced with a stiffened front section for improved steering responsiveness and precision.

Inside the cabin, occupants are spoiled by a high level of luxury and comfort. Outward visibility is excellent, with a full complement of analog gauges. (The odometer is digital.) Thoughtful touches abound, such as leather seating and leather accents for the steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake boot.

Driver and front passenger seats feature heated six-way power adjustment. Two dash-mounted power points, ample storage space and cupholders round out the interior appointments. Entry and exit are enhanced by wide doors and strategically placed hand grips at each door.

Rear-seat passengers enjoy special attention, with separate controls mounted at the back of the center console for ventilation, audio jacks for headphones, two power points and a dual cupholder.

The 60/40 split rear seat is of the flip/fold variety. The headrest flips back when folded flat with the cargo floor. It does not have to be removed and stored separately.

Safety features include dual front airbags, head curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, OnStar communications system, engine immobilizer, StabiliTrak vehicle stability system, tire pressure monitor and full-size spare tire. The 5.3i model adds high intensity discharge headlamps and power adjustable pedals.
