Target buys space for store in downtown Seattle

Last update: July 31, 2010 - 10:55 AM

SEATTLE - Department-store chain Target has bought retail space near Pike Place Market for a store in downtown Seattle.

The seller says the three story, 103,000-square-foot commercial space on Second Avenue between Pike and Union streets will house a smaller-format Target Store.

Target spokeswoman Sarah Bakken says it will be at least a year before the store opens. The Minneapolis-based company first needs to get city permits and reconfigure the space to fit its needs.

County records show Target paid $15.5 million for the property. The purchase includes a 250-stall underground garage.
