FARGO, N.D. - Xcel Energy Inc. says it properly investigated the failure of a natural gas pipe blamed in a September 2008 explosion that leveled a Fargo home and severely burned a woman.
The Minneapolis-based utility recently submitted a 14-page response to a notice filed April 1 by North Dakota Public Service Commission staff, who propose Xcel pay $30,000 in penalties for "probable" violations.
The bulk of the response counters a claim by PSC staff that Xcel didn't investigate the cause of the pipe failure.
The three public service commissioners will decide whether to hold a hearing on the matter.
