WILMINGTON, N.C. - The North Carolina Film Council is staying in business.
Gov. Beverly Perdue will sign an executive order reauthorizing the council on Thursday at EUE Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington.
Also attending the signing are: the vice president of EUE Screen Gems, Bill Vassar; Lynn Minges of the state Commerce Department, and the council chairman, Bob Seligson.
The governor appoints members of the Film Council, which is made up of film-industry professionals, business leaders, and citizens. The council advises and offers guidance in the interest of the state's film industry.
Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
