Raytheon gets $197 million Navy deal for services on LPD-17 ships

TEWKSBURY, Mass. - Raytheon Co. received a $197 million Navy contract for engineering and support for the LPD-17 class of amphibious warfare ships, the company said Thursday.

The defense contractor is the ship's electronics systems integrator and primary contractor for engineering support.

The contract includes five one-year options and extends Raytheon's role as the ship's lead provider of engineering support.

Work will be performed at the Expeditionary Warfare Center, San Diego, at the Seapower Capability Center, Portsmouth, R.I.; and by Raytheon Technical Services Company, New Orleans, and San Diego.

Shares of Raytheon fell 18 cents to $48.67 in late morning trading.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
