Medtronic Inc., Fridley, announced the full U.S. market release of MasterGraft Strip, a highly flexible ceramic scaffold intended for use in combination with a patient's own bone for fusing multiple levels of the posterolateral spine.

NEW BUSINESS

Alliant Techsystems, Edina, has received a $100 million contract from Lockheed Martin to produce solid rocket propulsion systems for all three stages of the U.S. Navy's Trident II (D-5) Fleet Ballistic Missile. Under terms of the annual contract, Alliant will continue to supply Trident solid rocket propulsion systems to the Trident II (D-5) Missile System Prime Contractor, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co., through 2013. Alliant also has been awarded a $21 million contract by the U.S. Army Aberdeen Contracting Center at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md., to supply various types of non-standard (non-NATO) weapon systems for the security forces of Afghanistan.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
