MOBILE, Ala. - Mobile's new cruise ship arrived a day late due to Tropical Storm Ida and prepared for a quick departure for the Mexican coast.
The Fantasy from Carnival Cruise Lines was due to arrive Tuesday for its first cruise, but that was pushed back to Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, it immediately prepared to leave on its first cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya.
The Fantasy carries more than 2,000 passengers and was previously based in New Orleans. It replaced a smaller ship, the Holiday, in Mobile.
The Carnival Triumph succeeded the Fantasy in New Orleans.
Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
