Werner Enterprises authorizes payment of quarterly, special dividends

OMAHA, Neb. - Trucking company Werner Enterprises Inc. said Tuesday its board authorized payment of a quarterly cash dividend of 5 cents per share and announced a special cash dividend of $1.25 per common share.

The special payout of $90 million will be made Dec. 8 to stockholders of record at the close of business on Nov. 23. Werner also paid a special cash dividend of $2.10 per common share in December 2008.

The regular quarterly dividend will be paid Jan. 26 to shareholders of record at Jan 11. The dividend amount remains unchanged from the previous quarter.

Shares rose 2 cents to close earlier at $19.16.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
