Sherman Black on Monday was named CEO of Rimage Corp., an Edina company that replicates CDs, DVDs and high-definition discs for corporations.
Black, 45, joined Rimage as president and chief operating officer in April. On Jan. 1, he will replace CEO Bernard Aldrich, 59, who is retiring after 13 years as CEO but who will remain a consultant during 2010. Black formerly was a senior vice president of marketing and strategy at disk-drive manufacturer Seagate Technology.
Black could not be reached for comment, but spokesman Richard Cinquina said Black "up until now has focused on strengthening the core business, disc replication. But now he's also going to be exploring some new areas in markets adjacent to the company's core competencies. The growth could be internal or by acquisition."
Rimage sells disc replicating equipment to retail, medical and government customers for information distribution and archiving. With $91.4 million in 2008 revenue, it ranks 75th on the Star Tribune's list of Minnesota's 100 largest public companies.
Rimage stock rose 10 cents, or 0.6 percent, to close Monday at $18.10. The stock is up 35 percent this year.
