Coupon program runs out of gas.
Cub Foods said Friday it's shutting down an alliance with Holiday gas stations begun two years ago amid soaring gas prices. The deal awarded customers a one-cent-per-gallon discount for each $10 spent at Cub.
The last coupons go out on store receipts printed today, and all coupons must be redeemed by their expiration dates, said Cub spokeswoman LeeAnn Jorgenson. She said Cub Foods handed out about $20 million in coupons during the life of the program.
When asked why Cub decided to drop the program, Jorgenson said, "The change allows us to provide greater value to our customers in other ways."
Cub competitor Rainbow Foods has a similar program where customers can earn 10 cents off a gallon of gas at participating BP stations for every $50 spent at Rainbow.
Cub Foods, based in Stillwater and owned by Supervalu Inc. of Eden Prairie, has 58 stores in the metro area, and 15 more throughout the state.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.

I found just the opposite with my car. I get better mileage from Holiday and I don't know why because all gas is refined at the same place … read more and brought to all stations. The only thing that could be different is if a store brand adds certain additives afterwards that another store may not...... My Cub lets you use numerous coupons for gas up to $1.50 off a gallon.
