Correction: Oil Pipeline Story

PIERRE, S.D. - In a Nov. 2 story about a hearing for the South Dakota portion of a proposed crude oil pipeline, The Associated Press erroneously reported that the project's construction manager said access to medical facilities during construction was the project's biggest challenge.

The official, Steve Hicks, said the remoteness of the pipeline route is probably the top challenge for the Keystone XL pipeline through western and south central South Dakota.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
