MOVING UP

Otto Bock HealthCare, Plymouth, named Brad Ruhl president and CEO of Otto Bock HealthCare US. He has been at the Plymouth med-tech company since 1988, managing sales, marketing and operational functions for the maker of prosthetic, orthotic and mobility products. Scott Schneider was promoted to chief marketing officer for the North American region. Schneider had been global vice president of Socket Technologies at Otto Bock headquarters.

JNBA Financial Advisors, Minneapolis, promoted Kim Brown to president. She had been director of client services for the past four years.

ON THE MOVE

Avant Energy, Minneapolis, hired Patrick Hessini as vice president. Hessini recently directed H.B. Fuller's global consulting business, including leading project teams to develop green supply chain platforms and sustainability programs. Earlier, he was involved in wind energy business planning for ConocoPhillips and held leadership and project management roles in the energy industry.

Compass Point Media, Minneapolis, hired Chris Wexler as vice president, director of digital media. Wexler brings experience in the digital media space from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, MRM Worldwide and Carmichael Lynch; he led digital engagement development for clients such as Volkswagen, Porsche, Harley Davidson, Burger King, Microsoft, Domino's, General Mills and National City.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
